I combine a focused study of the representation of the female form with the art practice to explore the elements of women’s power, female beauty, and the body. The four oil paintings are integral to my series titled “The Portraiture,” which explores the endemic anxiety that many women seem to experience regarding the shape of their bodies, whatever their size, age, color, and ability. I collaborate with influencers and artists who share an interest in challenging conventional standards of female beauty. Through the medium of oil, I convey and depict the imagery of these women, advocating for body liberation and inclusivity.
I utilize photographs of these individuals, with their permission, as references to paint my interpretation and convey my emotions regarding their bodies. While the physical aspect of the body is undoubtedly a significant source of inspiration, I’m equally drawn to their thoughts and all of the other elements of their identities beyond the visual representation.
Additionally, I employ my Instagram handle @suyangvisual to craft social media posts for each artwork, attributing credit to both the models and photographers. This practice extends the potential reach, discourse, and influence of feminism.
